The <em>Clothesline<\/em> documentary film that features interviews with women about the making and the meaning of their shirts was screened at the Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing in 1995. Clothesline shirts also were displayed at the UN conference in Vienna where women&#8217;s rights were declared as human rights and rape as a crime even in the context of war. The Community Studies Center (CSC)\u00a0at Dickinson College, under the direction of Susan Rose, is now working on a Global Clothesline Project. Recent projects have been done in Venezuela, Bosnia, the Netherlands, and Cameroon, and among diverse groups of women in the United States.\u00a0 The Global Clothesline Documentary (53 Minutes) features the artwork and interviews with women and girls cross-culturally in English, Spanish, French; it is now available from <a href=\"mailto:csc@dickinson.edu\">csc@dickinson.edu<\/a>.\u00a0Rose&#8217;s new book on <em>Challenging Global Gender Violence<\/em> will be available from Palgrave, \u00a0December 2103. For more information contact <a href=\"mailto:rose@dickinson.edu\">rose@dickinson.edu<\/a> or <a href=\"mailto:csc@dickinson.edu\">csc@dickinson.edu<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">Clothesline shirts are color-coded although it is fine to use any shirt you want.<br \/>\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0White represents women who died because of violence;<br \/>\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0Yellow or <strong><span style=\"color: #cc9900\">beige<\/span><\/strong> represents battered or assaulted women;<br \/>\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0<strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">Red<\/span><\/strong>, <strong><span style=\"color: #ff99cc\">pink<\/span><\/strong>, and <strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600\">orange<\/span><\/strong> are for survivors of rape and sexual assault;<br \/>\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0 <strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff\">Blue <\/span><\/strong>and <strong><span style=\"color: #008000\">green<\/span><\/strong> t-shirts represent survivors of incest and sexual abuse;<br \/>\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0<strong><span style=\"color: #993366\">Purple<\/span><\/strong> or <strong><span style=\"color: #cc99ff\">lavender<\/span><\/strong> represents women attacked because of their sexual orientation;<br \/>\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0Black is for women attacked for political reasons.<\/p>\n<p>Inspired by the AIDS quilt, visual artist Rachel Carey-Harper launched the Clothesline Project in 1990, using the concept of shirts hanging on a clothesline as a way to raise consciousness.
