{"id":6,"date":"2020-01-21T02:51:15","date_gmt":"2020-01-21T02:51:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/hist-211constitution\/?page_id=6"},"modified":"2025-08-24T19:15:30","modified_gmt":"2025-08-24T19:15:30","slug":"course-abstract","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/hist-211constitution\/","title":{"rendered":"Course Abstract"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>History 211, \u201cUS Constitutional History,\u201d with Professor Matthew Pinsker, meets at Dickinson College during fall semester 2025 on Mondays and Thursdays at 3pm.\u00a0 Course texts include Gordon Wood, <em>Power and Liberty\u00a0<\/em>(2021) and Eric Foner, <em>Second Founding <\/em>(2019), as well as various essays and articles by other noted scholars.\u00a0 Students will also navigate dynamic web resources created by the <a href=\"https:\/\/housedivided.dickinson.edu\/sites\/\">House Divided Project<\/a> at Dickinson College.\u00a0 During the semester, students will write multiple essays on how the constitution has changed and evolved since its creation in 1787.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Banner image from Howard Chandler Christy&#8217;s oil painting,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aoc.gov\/explore-capitol-campus\/art\/signing-constitution\">&#8220;Signing of the Constitution,&#8221; (1940)<\/a>, which hangs in the US Capitol.\u00a0 John Dickinson is featured by the window on the right side, his head set off against the green curtain.\u00a0 But note that even though Dickinson was a signer of the Constitution, he was not actually present on September 17, 1787.
