Few historical periods\u00a0have been digitized with as much care as the American Civil War era. \u00a0The extent of access to primary sources and multi-media tools is pretty astounding. \u00a0Test out your abilities to navigate this new world by taking the webquest challenge below. \u00a0Give yourself about 10-15 minutes for each of the five searches.<\/p>\n

  1. Find a copy of abolitionist William Still\u2019s obituary in the New York Times<\/em><\/li>\n
  2. Identify at least three different historical images of Henry \u201cBox\u201d Brown.<\/li>\n
  3. Who was living in Abraham Lincoln\u2019s Springfield, Illinois household in 1860?<\/li>\n
  4. Find a copy of General Meade\u2019s official description of the fighting on Little Round Top during the second day of the Battle of Gettysburg.<\/li>\n
  5. Which usage was more common during the Civil War itself: Confederates or Rebels?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    There’s no need to submit your work, but be prepared to demonstrate how you found your answers (or try to analyze\u00a0why you didn’t). \u00a0Students will be asked to describe their searches and results in class, and, in some cases, will be tasked with demonstrating the search process at the podium.<\/p>\n
