(p. 156).\u00a0 Students in History 288 should be able to explain what Foner means by this statement and how the politics of 1868 in particular reveal the limits of Republican efforts to transform the South.\u00a0 Foner&#8217;s narrative is thick with revealing details, but\u00a0 students should try to identify at least one example for each category.\u00a0 For those who want to visualize these issues, consult the online exhibit built around Foner&#8217;s groundbreaking work from the University of Houston&#8217;s &#8220;Digital History&#8221; site:\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.digitalhistory.uh.edu\/reconstruction\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">&#8220;America&#8217;s Reconstruction.&#8221;<\/a>\u00a0 The slideshows are full of fascinating stories and great images, such as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.digitalhistory.uh.edu\/reconstruction\/section1\/section1_19.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a rare photograph<\/a> of an auction of confiscated Confederate lands in South Carolina in 1865, the image of a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.digitalhistory.uh.edu\/reconstruction\/section2\/section2_02b.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">black marriage ceremony <\/a>after the war, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.digitalhistory.uh.edu\/reconstruction\/section2\/section2_05.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">&#8220;reunion&#8221;
