{"id":96,"date":"2010-09-15T18:32:46","date_gmt":"2010-09-15T18:32:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/hist-404pinsker\/?p=96"},"modified":"2010-10-19T01:29:18","modified_gmt":"2010-10-19T01:29:18","slug":"benjamin-franklin-americas-renaissance-man","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/hist-404pinsker\/2010\/09\/15\/benjamin-franklin-americas-renaissance-man\/","title":{"rendered":"Benjamin Franklin: America\u2019s Renaissance Man"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/hist-404pinsker\/files\/2010\/09\/benjamin-franklin.jpg\"><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/hist-404pinsker\/files\/2010\/09\/265px-Franklin-Benjamin-LOC.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_127\" style=\"width: 232px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/hist-404pinsker\/files\/2010\/09\/265px-Franklin-Benjamin-LOC.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-127\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-127\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/hist-404pinsker\/files\/2010\/09\/265px-Franklin-Benjamin-LOC-222x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"222\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/hist-404pinsker\/files\/2010\/09\/265px-Franklin-Benjamin-LOC-222x300.jpg 222w, https:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/hist-404pinsker\/files\/2010\/09\/265px-Franklin-Benjamin-LOC.jpg 265w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 222px) 100vw, 222px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-127\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Image Courtesy of Wikipedia<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The eldest and arg<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/hist-404pinsker\/files\/2010\/09\/benjamin-franklin.jpg\"><\/a>uably wisest of the delegates at the Constitutional Convention in 1787 was Benjamin<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/hist-404pinsker\/files\/2010\/09\/benjamin-franklin.jpg\"><\/a> Franklin,\u00a0one of America&#8217;s greatest and most successful citizens.\u00a0 His ventures into newspaper publishing, science, and diplomacy overseas, among others, prove that there was very\u00a0little that Franklin was not capable of\u00a0doing or achieving.\u00a0 While his work on bifocals and electricity have become more legendary than his political contributions,\u00a0the\u00a0assistance that Franklin provided during the\u00a0early formative years of the American government is undeniable.\u00a0 Franklin\u00a0was not one to\u00a0waste\u00a0words,\u00a0a standard he lived by and made known in his <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sfheart.com\/FranklinsVirtues.html\" target=\"_blank\">Thirteen Virtues<\/a>, and his relative silence during most of the Constitutional Convention made his statements, as\u00a0peculiar as they sometimes were, greatly resonate with his fellow delegates.\u00a0 The portrayal of Franklin as an elder philosopher and wise sage, especially in the reputation that preceded him upon his arrival at the Convention, created a great deal of respect and awe from the delegates, many of whom had never met him in person and were extremely courteous to him throughout the course of meeting at the State House.\u00a0 His portrayal as a family man is one of indifference, however, as his many ventures into his various\u00a0fields of interest created a great deal of separation away from those that were closest to him.\u00a0 Nevertheless, the many experiences of Franklin overseas in Europe gave him a great deal of knowledge concerning the amount of power that should be given to the government and the ill effects that monarchies with too much control in the hands of rulers had on\u00a0countries.\u00a0 While Franklin was not a major contributor at the Constutional Convention in the way that James Madison was, his keen sense and his years of seasoning in the realm of public policy and\u00a0government allowed for him to still make a considerable impact, a feat that Franklin had no problem achieving throughout the course of his incredible life.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The eldest and arguably wisest of the delegates at the Constitutional Convention in 1787 was Benjamin Franklin,\u00a0one of America&#8217;s greatest and most successful citizens.\u00a0 His ventures into newspaper publishing, science, and diplomacy overseas, among others, prove that there was very\u00a0little &hellip;
