Karl \u00a0has \u00a0received the Constance and Rose Ganoe Memorial Award for Inspirational Teaching, Gamma Sigma Alpha National Honor Society Professor of the Year, and Student Senate Professor of the Year. For more information, please see his abbreviated <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/karlqualls\/about-me\/\">CV<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>He is the author of <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/karlqualls\/about-me\/\">numerous articles and chapters<\/a>, including a chapter in the textbook\u00a0<em><a title=\"Russia and Western Civilization\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mesharpe.com\/mall\/resultsa.asp?Title=Russia+and+Western+Civilization%3A+Cultural+and+Historical+Encounters\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Russia and Western Civilization: Cultural and Historical Encounters<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>(M.E. Sharpe, 2003) written in collaboration with his colleagues at Dickinson College. His first monograph was <a title=\"From Ruins to Reconstruction\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cornellpress.cornell.edu\/book\/?GCOI=80140100982900\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>From Ruins to Reconstruction: Urban Identity in Soviet Sevastopol after World War II<\/em>\u00a0(Cornell, 2009)<\/a>. His most recent book is <em><a href=\"https:\/\/utorontopress.com\/us\/stalin-s-ni-os-2\">Stalin&#8217;s Ninos: Educating Spanish Civil War Refugee Children in the Soviet Union, 1937-1951<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Karl&#8217;s research has been funded by, among others, the Getty Foundation, Howard Foundation, IREX, The Library of Congress, American Council of Learned Societies, the Kennan Institute of the Woodrow Wilson Center, and Dickinson College.<\/p>\n<p>He teaches Russian, German, Italian, and eastern European histories, as well as courses on the Holocaust, European dictators, refugees, urban history, historical methods, and more.<\/p>\n<p>He thanks Ryan Burke for his technical expertise in designing this site.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Karl Qualls, Professor of\u00a0History and Gibbs McKinney Chair in International Education and Professor of History at\u00a0Dickinson College.
