Shackleton Bailey, <em>Anthologia Latina<\/em> [Stuttgart: Teubner, 1982], pp. 128-9).<\/p>\n<p>Reise&#8217;s slightly different text is <a href=\"http:\/\/books.google.com\/books?id=_SAAAAAAYAAJ&amp;dq=arma%20tablistis&amp;pg=PA135#v=onepage&amp;q=arma%20tablistis&amp;f=false\">here<\/a>. Excepti (4) is Shackleton Bailey&#8217;s nice emendation for the manuscripts&#8217; <em>ex certis, <\/em>which makes no sense. <em>Montani<\/em> can mean savage in temperament, like mountain dwellers. <em>Tab(u)lista, -ae (<\/em>m.)\u00a0is a rare and late word, not in OLD or Lewis and Short, but it is a sensible enough term for those who play at <em>tabula, <\/em>a game which, according to Isidore of Seville, involved dice, tower-like pieces, and counters.
