The language of the declaration, such as using &#8220;that the state of war&#8230; has been thrust upon the United States&#8221; is indicative that the United States was left with no alternative, but to enter the war. The recent acts the declaration referred to, were the sinking of the\u00a0<em>Lusitania<\/em>\u00a0and the Zimmerman Telegram. In both instances, the United States did not provoke the Germans.
