{"id":3997,"date":"2010-09-21T19:50:13","date_gmt":"2010-09-21T23:50:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/norwichhumanities\/?p=3997"},"modified":"2010-09-21T19:50:25","modified_gmt":"2010-09-21T23:50:25","slug":"watching-an-arsenal-game-at-the-rising-sun","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/norwichhumanities\/2010\/09\/watching-an-arsenal-game-at-the-rising-sun\/","title":{"rendered":"Watching an Arsenal Game at the Rising Sun"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div>\n<p>Of all of the pubs which I frequented during my one  month stay, the Rising Sun was my favorite.\u00a0 Now, you might ask why I  would be interested in going to this tiny pub with limited outdoor  seating, and frankly food which was lacking in sophistication and  cooking skills.\u00a0 Seriously, Dave got frozen peas with his Fish n&#8217;  Chips.\u00a0 And the answer is, of all of the pubs I went to during a  football match, the clientele at the Rising Sun were the only ones that I  saw as being truely interested in the games at hand.\u00a0 And I think that  the smaller atmosphere of this pub actually facilitated this.<\/p>\n<p>Tonites game was Tottenham Hotspur versus Arsenal.\u00a0 From the  reactions of the pubgoers to each of Arsenal&#8217;s four goals against the  Spurs, they were vastly Arsenal fans.\u00a0 When an Arsenal player was fouled  as he brought the ball through the penalty box, the fans were  outraged.\u00a0 And the exitement of the sucessful penalty kick got the  entire pub cheering afterwards.<\/p>\n<p>During the second fifteen minute half of the extended time period,  the fans would also cheer as a group whenever an Arsenal player gained  possession of the ball or stole it from a Spurs player.\u00a0 For example, if  the Arsenal player avoided losing posession, a large contingent of the  pubgoers in front of the bar would exclaim say &#8220;OHHHHHH!&#8221; in unison.\u00a0  This actually reminds me quite a bit of the reaction towards gaining  possession during football games at the sports bar I go to back home.\u00a0  At many of the other bars, it seemed that the football matches on the  flatscreens were more of an afterthought, and most of the customers were  ignoring them.\u00a0 However, that may be because Arsenal wasn&#8217;t playing in  those games.<\/p>\n<p>If you want good food and an excellent selection of beers and  spirits, go to the Jack Horner.\u00a0 The food is quite a bit more expensive  than the other pubs, but the Fish and Chips are some of the best that I  have had throughout my stay in London (and that is many a fish n&#8217;  chips).\u00a0 I would also recommend trying the Fullers ESB.\u00a0 Another  favorite pub of mine was the court, mainly because they served Everards  Tiger, an ale with light coffee notes.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Of all of the pubs which I frequented during my one month stay, the Rising Sun was my favorite.\u00a0 Now, you might ask why I would be interested in going to this tiny pub with limited outdoor seating, and frankly food which was lacking in sophistication and cooking skills.\u00a0 Seriously, Dave got frozen peas with [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":501,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"ngg_post_thumbnail":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[6695,92,1],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-3997","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-2010-tyler","category-pubs","category-uncategorized"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/norwichhumanities\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/3997","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/norwichhumanities\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/norwichhumanities\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/norwichhumanities\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/501"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/norwichhumanities\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=3997"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/norwichhumanities\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/3997\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/norwichhumanities\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=3997"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/norwichhumanities\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=3997"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/norwichhumanities\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=3997"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
