Hello! My name is Olivia Termini and I am a sophomore here at Dickinson. A little about me: passionate environmentalist and an advocate for civic engagement and public participation. Luckily, I am able to work for a group called Countable, a start-up committed to lowering barriers to political entry and providing easier access to government for all people. It is not a new problem in the United States for the public to feel like they have minimal ability to participate in government or access to government officials. The Countable team wants to provide mechanisms for understanding complex legislation and communicating with your legislators.
With the newly inaugurated president in office, there are many questions of what the new political climate will be. On that note, we have launched a new campaign called “Talk to Trump.” We are asking that people, like you, create 20-30 second videos expressing your beliefs, concerns, and hopes and aspirations for the new administration. Your video will be delivered to the White House and may be featured on the webpage. You will also have the option to share it on your own social media sites.
So how do you do it? Check out the link here. You can create a video using your phone or computer. State your name, where you are from, and your message to the new administration. There are sample videos on the website. Usually the videos are issue-based. Mine is on the website and is (of course) about the environment.
Please spread the word about this campaign. Text and email the link to your friends, family, other groups on campus, or anyone else who you think would be interested.
If you have any questions or want to find out how to get more involved, feel free to reach out to me via email (terminio@dickinson.edu or olivia@countable.us) or phone (570-793-0077). I am looking forward to seeing videos of Dickinsonians on social media as you take the opportunity to have your voices heard.
