As the <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">center for Jewish Life on campus<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, it is our duty to speak out when we see <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">antisemitism a<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">n<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">y<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">where, but especially among our student body<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Too often, <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">acts of bigotry<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> are couched as humorous, as \u201cjust jokes\u201d or as \u201csatire,\u201d but the effect is clear to those affected and always very serious. <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">These statements<\/span> <span data-contrast=\"auto\">are meant to <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">intimidate, and <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">often <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">cause anxiety and fear. <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">At a time when antisemitic incidents <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">in the United States <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">are at their highest point since 1979, and antisemitic assaults and murders are at an <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">all-time<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> high, we cannot afford to take any incident of bias lightly.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">When people <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">make antisemitic jokes<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> t<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">hey send the message that <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">the<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">y take the<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> concerns of the Jewish community <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">lightly, and that <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">they consider <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Jewish <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">voices a<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">s<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> unworthy of attention.<\/span> <span data-contrast=\"auto\">But we are <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">grateful that this has not been the response writ large. So many among the Dickinson community have spoken out against this incident, from President Ensign to every student who brought the video to the attention of our Bias Response Team. <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">We are grateful <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">for everyone who <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">continues to take antisemitism seriously.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">For our Jewish students, an email will go out on Monday with information about holding space to talk about <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">your <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">feelings and about how best to respond to incidents like these. We hope that <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">this will help you know that you are supported in this time.
