Each event offers different ways to engage with the topic of gender in some way. Our goal is to engage the College community in dialogue and conversation about the intersection of gender with other identities, to offer gendered perspectives on contemporary issues and events, and to consider the way gender impacts our daily lives. Many of our inaugural Gender Week\u2019s events focus on gender and leadership. Ryan will discuss changes she has noticed during her career, as well as what others women can expect when joining the workforce. This talk explores the gendered aspects of leadership and career. Join us to learn more! Cosponsored with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dickinson.edu\/homepage\/127\/international_business_and_management\">International Business and Management<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dickinson.edu\/homepage\/1010\/student_leadership_andamp_campus_engagement_slce\">Student Leadership and Campus Engagement<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A Clark Forum Event: Muslim Women and the Freedom to Choose<br \/>\nWith Dr. Lila Abu-Lughod, Columbia University<br \/>\nTuesday, February 28 ATS 7:00-8:00pm<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>During Gender Week, the <a href=\"http:\/\/clarke.dickinson.edu\/\">Clarke Forum<\/a> is hosting anthropologist Dr. Lila Abu-Lughod, who examines the everyday lives of young women in one Egyptian village to open up new ways of thinking about choice and to expose the politics of common misunderstandings about practices such as veiling and arranged marriage. A book sale and signing will follow the presentation. Cosponsored by the Clarke Forum for Contemporary Issues and the Morgan Lecture Fund. It is also part of the Clarke Forum\u2019s Leadership in an Age of Uncertainty Series.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Non-Profit Leadership: Lessons from the Community<br \/>\nWednesday, March 1 Stern Great Room 5:00-6:30pm<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In the middle of the week, the Women\u2019s and Gender Resource Center hosts another event focused on leadership. Non-profit leaders Robin Scaer (Executive Director, YWCA Carlisle), Elaine Livas (Founder and Executive Director, Project SHARE of Carlisle), Trinette Ream (Social Services Director, The Salvation Army), and Safronia Perry (Assistant Executive Director, Hope Station), will talk about the organizations they work for as well as their experiences as leaders of local-nonprofits. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dickinson.edu\/homepage\/786\/center_for_service_spirituality_and_social_justice\">Cosponsored with the Center for Service, Spirituality and Social Justice<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Start Smart: Salary Negotiation for Students<br \/>\nThursday, March 2 Althouse 206 4:30-6:30pm<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This workshop, created by the American Association of University Women, empowers women with the skills to successfully negotiate their salary and benefit packages. The registration deadline was February 24. Cosponsored with the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dickinson.edu\/homepage\/136\/career_center\">Career Center<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/orgsync.com\/145880\/chapter\">Dickinson College AAUW chapter<\/a>, and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dickinson.edu\/homepage\/281\/tuition_and_aid_overview\">Office of Financial Aid<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Women\u2019s Annual Retreat: Know Your Strengths<br \/>\nFriday Evening, March 3 to Saturday Evening, March 4 Dickinson College Farm<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The theme for this year\u2019s retreat is Know Your Strengths. Programming includes a farm activity, artistic expression, writing, reflection, movement, and Farm Pizza! All woman-identified and gender non-conforming students, faculty, staff, and administrators are welcome. Please join us for conversation and community-building. Students are asked to commit to the full retreat; faculty and staff may choose any or all of the retreat to attend. All meals are provided and transportation is available.
