In the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/violenceprevention\/pdf\/NISVS-StateReportBook.pdf\">National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Survey State Report 2010-2012<\/a>, CDC researchers find that:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\">In the U.S., 1 in 4 women (27.4%) and 1 in 9 men (11.0%) have experienced contact sexual violence, physical violence, and\/or stalking by an intimate partner in their lifetime and reported an IPV-related impact (e.g., injury, fear, concern for safety, needing services).<\/p>\n<p>You can find other <a href=\"https:\/\/ncadv.org\/statistics\">domestic violence fact sheets<\/a> at the <a href=\"https:\/\/ncadv.org\/\">National Coalition Against Domestic Violence<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-583\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/landishouse\/files\/2017\/10\/power-and-control-wheel-280x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"280\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/officeofequityandinclusivity\/files\/2017\/10\/power-and-control-wheel-280x300.jpg 280w, https:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/officeofequityandinclusivity\/files\/2017\/10\/power-and-control-wheel.jpg 731w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 280px) 100vw, 280px\" \/>Domestic violence\/intimate partner violence takes many forms, including physical violence, sexual violence, stalking, and psychological and emotional abuse. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theduluthmodel.org\/wheels\/\">Power and Control Wheel<\/a> created by the Domestic Abuse Intervention Program (often referred to as the Duluth Model) illustrates the tactics perpetrators use and the ways they may overlap and intersect.<\/p>\n<p>In October, we commemorate Domestic Violence Awareness Month. You can read the history of DVAM <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nrcdv.org\/dvam\/DVAM-history\">here<\/a>. The Joyful Heart Foundation is offering <a href=\"http:\/\/joyfulheartfoundation.org\/blog\/honoring-domestic-violence-awareness-month-2017\">tools to support survivors<\/a> throughout the month.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dickinson.edu\/homepage\/700\/prevention_education_and_advocacy_center\">Prevention, Education &amp; Advocacy Center<\/a> and its peer educators, along with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dvscp.org\/\">Domestic Violence Services of Cumberland and Perry Counties<\/a>, were on Britton Plaza today raising awareness about domestic violence\/intimate partner violence. Confidential advocacy support is also available by calling the 24\/7 Advocacy Hotline at 717-831-8850.
