Trip 2: Backpacking in the Adirondacks, NY
Area: High Peaks Region
Leaders: Wesley and Kenze
The trip will depart from campus 5pm on Friday, October 17th and the journey will take approximately 7-8 hours- prime for quality bonding time and good tunes. The hiking will be fairly rigorous, but rich with incredible views, including views of both Avalanche Lake and Lake Colden. We are currently planning on summiting Mt. Colden (4,715ft) and Mt. Algonquin (5,114ft), and who knows maybe we’ll bag another peak as well depending on how we’re feeling!
Things to keep in mind:
Daily mileage will be in the ballpark range of 7-8 miles, but remember we will be gaining elevation rather rapidly. Also, temperatures are likely to drop pretty low at night, maybe down to 33F, and layering will be important. Good boots are crucial to an enjoyable backpacking trip! You do not want to do this trip in sneakers, please talk to us if you are interested but do not have hiking boots and we will do our best to help you work it out. Trip 1: West Virginia Backpacking
Area: Monongehela State Forest
Leaders: Kelsey and Jessamyn
Description:
Fabulous leaders Kelsey and Jessamyn will be leading a backpacking trip over fall pause that will go to the Monongehela State Forest in West Virginia. We have found a beautiful trail with great forest views and some wonderful waterfalls. On the Friday before fall pause we will leave from campus by 5 pm at the latest and we will drive about 5 hours and set up camp at the trailhead. We will hike about 9 miles the first day and set up camp. Then, on the second day we will do a really cool 7-mile day hike. On the last day we will hike out about 7 miles completing our loop, we will camp at the trail head that night and then wake up on Tuesday and drive back to campus to get back around 2 pm. If you have any question please let Jessamyn or I know!
