On November 23, Prof. Andrew Chapman (College of William and Mary) presented an ongoing project called “Vice Media ‘po-russki’: Online Documentary Films and Russian Protest Movements.” Among those in the audience were students from Prof. DeBlasio’s course on “Russian Film of the Putin Era.” Prof. Chapman’s talk explored amateur filmmakers, coverage of Russian protest movements, and the changing status of the camera and the camera operator in contemporary culture. He also talked about the methodology involved in conducting research with digital materials and internet data. Prof. Chapman’s visit was generously funded by Dickinson’s Digital Humanities collective.
