The Russian Department and the Center for Global Studies and Education welcomed scholar-in-residence Dr. Victoria Zhuravleva to campus in early December 2018. During her five-day residency at Dickinson, Dr. Zhuravleva met with Russian Department and International Studies students, visited classes on language and culture, and gave a public lecture entitled “Russia and the United States in Crisis: Foreign Policy and National Identity.” Her research focuses on the “image wars” between Russia and the US and the formation of national identity and political identity in political cartoons.
Dr. Zhuravleva is Professor of History and International Relations and Vice-Dean of the School of International Studies at the Russian State University for the Humanities (Moscow). For many years she has been a close partner of the Dickinson-in-Moscow program, involving Dickinson students in discussion clubs and research projects during their time abroad.
