On Monday, April 29, 2019, students in Prof. DeBlasio’s “Workshop in Translation” course presented their work at the Service Learning/Community Studies Poster Session. During the spring 2019 semester, students in the course worked to build their Russian-English translation skills in a variety of genres. Their main projects including translating archival documents (WWI diaries) and subtitling two films by award-winning filmmaker Galina Evtushenko. Each student also worked on an individual translation project, where they collaborated with an individual or organization in search of Russian-English translation services. As part of their individual projects, students translated historical and scientific documents, adoption records, a piece of journalism on US-Russian relations, and a scholarly article about the history of Russian folk toys.
