BCX4\">with her intense expression of emotion and the <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW56068627 BCX4\">facade<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW56068627 BCX4\"> of a childlike innocence and ignoran<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW56068627 BCX4\">ce. <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW56068627 BCX4\">Robert recognizes this and <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW56068627 BCX4\">in turn starts to generalize the category of women as a whole of doing this action. <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW56068627 BCX4\">He sees this \u201cpower\u201d that women <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW56068627 BCX4\">hold as a danger to others, almost<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW56068627 BCX4\">\u00a0in protest to the increasing social power that women are gaining at this time in history. <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW56068627 BCX4\">The book continuously builds on the idea that men <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW56068627 BCX4\">are perceived to\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW56068627 BCX4\">hold the power in social and romant<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW56068627 BCX4\">ic relationships<\/span> <span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW56068627 BCX4\">while<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW56068627 BCX4\">,<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW56068627 BCX4\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW56068627 BCX4\">in reality,\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW56068627 BCX4\">women <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW56068627 BCX4\">use their high emotional intelligence to gain power over situations and people. This way, they are easily able to manipulate <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW56068627 BCX4\">for their own <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW56068627 BCX4\">benefit.<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW56068627 BCX4\">\u00a0This idea is expressed through other female characters as well, such as Clara Talboys. Robert <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW56068627 BCX4\">Frequently<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW56068627 BCX4\"> thinks back to her plea for him to continue searching for the trut<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW56068627 BCX4\">h of her brother\u2019s \u201c<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW56068627 BCX4\">dissapearance<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW56068627 BCX4\">\u201d, a plea that he could not refuse. The fact that he could not say no to Clara angers Robert because he is then burdened with the responsibility <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW56068627 BCX4\">that<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW56068627 BCX4\"> com<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW56068627 BCX4\">es with the answers he is looking for.
