In this passage, beauty is depicted as a tangible, powerful <\/span>object,\u00a0<\/span>something that can and will be used<\/span>. <\/span>The term \u201cboundless <\/span>possession<\/span>\u201d sp<\/span>ecifically\u00a0<\/span>stood out for the reason that it shows how the attainment of beauty has\u00a0<\/span>no limits as to what <\/span>someone\u00a0<\/span>can accomplish with it. <\/span>This concept is not foreign to Lucy Audley. <\/span>She has used her pretty face and deceitful nature to successfully carry out numerous ploys and instances of <\/span>m<\/span>i<\/span>nipulation<\/span>. <\/span>She knows how easily she can influence the mind of Sir Michael Audley, along with others, as shown throughout the past few chapters of the book. <\/span>She is confident in her ability to persuade Michael to believe that Robert has gone mad and does so with ease <\/span>with her intense expression of emotion and the <\/span>facade<\/span> of a childlike innocence and ignoran<\/span>ce. <\/span>Robert recognizes this and <\/span>in turn starts to generalize the category of women as a whole of doing this action. <\/span>He sees this \u201cpower\u201d that women <\/span>hold as a danger to others, almost<\/span>\u00a0in protest to the increasing social power that women are gaining at this time in history. <\/span>The book continuously builds on the idea that men <\/span>are perceived to\u00a0<\/span>hold the power in social and romant<\/span>ic relationships<\/span> while<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>in reality,\u00a0<\/span>women <\/span>use their high emotional intelligence to gain power over situations and people. This way, they are easily able to manipulate <\/span>for their own <\/span>benefit.<\/span>\u00a0This idea is expressed through other female characters as well, such as Clara Talboys. Robert <\/span>Frequently<\/span> thinks back to her plea for him to continue searching for the trut<\/span>h of her brother\u2019s \u201c<\/span>dissapearance<\/span>\u201d, a plea that he could not refuse. The fact that he could not say no to Clara angers Robert because he is then burdened with the responsibility <\/span>that<\/span> com<\/span>es with the answers he is looking for. He is also angered at the fact that he could not say no because of her <\/span>emtional<\/span> power over him as a <\/span>beaut<\/span>i<\/span>ful\u00a0<\/span>woman.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
