Throughout<\/span>\u00a0the novel so far, I think there has been an emphasis on the power that the supernatural holds. I decided to close read a passage on page 113,\u00a0<\/span>\u201cI am here to do Your bidding, Master. I am Your slave, and You will reward me, for I shall be\u00a0<\/span>faithful<\/span>. I have worshipped You long and afar off. Now that You are near, I await Your commands, and You will not pass<\/span>\u00a0me by, will You, dear Master, in Your distribution of good things?)<\/span>\u00a0I\u00a0<\/span>noted<\/span>\u00a0th<\/span>e\u00a0<\/span>usage of capitalization on \u201cyou\u201d throughout this passage as a\u00a0<\/span>connection to the way God is capitalized in religious writings.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>I thought that the word usage related to a religious-like figure, such\u00a0<\/span>as;<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u201c<\/span>faithful<\/span>\u201d<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>\u201c<\/span>worshipped<\/span>\u201d<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>\u201c<\/span>commands<\/span>\u201d<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>\u201c<\/span>distribution of good things<\/span>\u201d<\/span>, and\u00a0<\/span>\u201c<\/span>reward me\u201d all<\/span>\u00a0show the supernatural power that Dracula holds.\u00a0<\/span>It shows the submission that Redfield has toward Dracula, and<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>I think\u00a0<\/span>that\u00a0<\/span>it also\u00a0<\/span>shows the absolute adoration that Renfield<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0and these other \u201cvictims<\/span>,<\/span>\u201d have toward\u00a0<\/span>him<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>I think that this passage relates to the fear of the supernatural and its control, but also maybe to the foreign. Dracula, a foreign character who\u00a0<\/span>also had a\u00a0<\/span>supernatural aspect<\/span>\u00a0to him, has\u00a0<\/span>control<\/span>\u00a0over people like people in the Victori<\/span>an era hadn\u2019t heard of before.<\/span>\u00a0I think all of this is Stoker playing\u00a0<\/span>off of<\/span>\u00a0the people in\u00a0<\/span>these times<\/span>\u00a0fear of the unknown, and he portrays Dracula as a regular man that has a different side to him that can be dangerous, and\u00a0<\/span>dominant.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
