{"id":99,"date":"2014-08-27T15:55:29","date_gmt":"2014-08-27T15:55:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/seminar-digitalhumanities\/?page_id=99"},"modified":"2014-10-13T13:43:59","modified_gmt":"2014-10-13T13:43:59","slug":"bibliography-due-10-27","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/seminar-digitalhumanities\/reading-topics\/bibliography-due-10-27\/","title":{"rendered":"Bibliography (Due 10-27)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Annotated Bibliography<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Submitted by email Monday, October 27, 2014<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Objective<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Students should identify, briefly describe and properly cite six (6) sources (equally divided between primary and secondary) that would support the close reading of a particular chapter or theme from <em>The Education of Henry Adams<\/em>.\u00a0 Students should begin each annotated bibliography with a brief abstract (150 words or less) that describes the nature of their chapter or summary.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Assignment Details<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Students should begin by identifying three secondary sources relevant to their chosen chapter or theme.\u00a0 They should make these choices as valuable as possible.\u00a0 That means try to identify the most recent scholarly books or articles available.\u00a0 For this assignment, reference sources are poor choices.\u00a0 So are general websites.\u00a0 The best research into secondary sources will most likely occur in the library catalog or JSTOR.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Students should then try to identify three useful primary sources most relevant to their chapter or theme.\u00a0 These sources can be obtained digitally (from databases or institutional websites) or in published form (at the library).\u00a0\u00a0 As a general rule, collections of primary sources are best (published editions of letters, newspaper articles, etc.), but individual primary source documents are acceptable, too.\u00a0 Regardless, the best primary sources will come either directly from Henry Adams or from those historical figures he mentions in <em>The Education<\/em>.\u00a0 Students should be creative in looking for these sources.\u00a0 You might find them in the library catalog, database finder or through digitized collections of 19<sup>th<\/sup>-century books (such as Google Books or Internet Archive).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>All citations should follow Chicago-style bibliography format and should be positioned at the beginning of each entry in bolded type.\u00a0 Please put the annotations or brief descriptions in regular font underneath the citations.
