On Tuesday, March 31st, 17 new members were inducted into Sigma Delta Pi, the National Collegiate Hispanic Honor Society (La Sociedad Nacional Honoraria Hispánica). Dickinson’s chapter began in 1962 and since then many Dickinsonians, both students, professors, and visiting international students have joined SDP. As part of the induction ceremony each inductee received a red candle which they lit and later blew out, both actions carrying symbolic meaning. Additionally, the inductees were awarded a certificate and a pin bearing the royal seal of Fernando and Isabel, signed the official register, and received a red carnation, the Society’s flower. Three Spanish majors and Sigma Delta Pi members officiated, with literary reading presented by a Spanish professor.
