(Re-)Enactments of Tradition: the Documentary in Brazilian Indigenous Villages

The presentation will explore the recuperation of tradition forged by documentaries made by Brazilian indigenous communities. The focus is on Video nas Aldeias, a Brazilian project that was established in 1986 with the objective of forming indigenous filmmakers.
Amaranta Cesar is a professor of Film Studies at the Universidade do Reconcavo Bahiano, a filmmaker, and a curator. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Paris III-Sorbonne Nouvelle and is currently a post-doctoral research fellow at New York University.
