From Indiana to Pennsylvania, Maddy is a student with ambitions that lie far beyond Carlisle. As a sophomore Anthropology and Spanish major, she is currently preparing to study abroad her entire junior year in Spain and Argentina\/Ecuador.<\/p>\n

  1. Hometown: <\/strong>South Whitley, IN<\/li>\n
  2. Majors<\/strong>: Spanish<\/a> and Anthropology<\/a><\/li>\n
  3. Clubs and organizations<\/strong>:\u00a0 I’m currently a member of the Romance Language House<\/a> (I’m one of the House Managers this year!), Spanish Club, and Archaeology Club.<\/li>\n
  4. Honors\/scholarships\/awards: <\/strong>I’m a John Dickinson Scholarship recipient and a member of Dickinson’s chapter of the honors society Alpha Lambda Delta.<\/li>\n
  5. Favorite book: <\/strong>So hard to choose, but right now it’s Project Hail Mary<\/i>\u00a0by Andy Weir. I love Sci-Fi!<\/li>\n
  6. Favorite movie: <\/i><\/strong>Dora and the Lost City of Gold<\/span>. Ahem, I mean, I can’t say for all time, but some recent favorites are The Green Knight, Dune, <\/i>and Emma<\/i>.<\/li>\n
  7. On choosing Dickinson: <\/strong>I chose Dickinson because I knew I wanted to go to a small liberal arts college, and because of the anthropology and archaeology programs. I was so happy to discover that the Spanish department is just as great, and I quickly decided to be a double major!<\/li>\n
  8. Favorite place on campus: <\/strong>Denny or the library.<\/li>\n
  9. Favorite professor: <\/strong>All the Spanish professors I’ve had classes with are amazing, but I have to say my advisor, Professor DeLutis.<\/li>\n
  10. On studying abroad:<\/strong> I’m studying abroad next year! In the Fall I will be in M\u00e1laga, Spain<\/a>, and in the Spring I plan on going to Mendoza, Argentina<\/a>. It was really important to me to be able to experience studying in Spain as well as in South America. My anthropology advisor worked with me to make sure I would be able to spend all of next year abroad and still complete both majors. I’m so excited and I can’t wait to practice my Spanish!<\/li>\n
  11. If I could have dinner with anyone, living or dead, it would be \u2026 <\/strong>Jorge Luis Borges, so he can explain some things about his work to me. I love his short stories because they have so many layers and references.<\/li>\n
  12. Proudest accomplishment so far: <\/strong>My proudest moments as a Spanish major are when I turn in an essay and think, “Wow I wrote that <\/i>in a language I didn’t know three years ago.” Or when I use a complex sentence structure without thinking about it and realize, “Okay, woah, that really just happened!” It sounds silly, I know, but those are the moments that show me that I’m really improving. Learning Spanish has opened up so many possibilities to me–not just in terms of communication, but also in ways of understanding the world.<\/li>\n
  13. About my internship\/ job: <\/strong>I currently work at the Trout Gallery<\/a>, Dickinson’s art museum, as a Spanish Language Assistant. Along with the other Spanish Assistants, I make lesson plans and lead classes for Spanish levels 101-201 on their visits to the Trout Gallery each semester. As a Trout employee I also work at exhibition openings, get to see the behind-the-scenes operations of the museum, and I’ve even had the chance to meet some of the artists whose work we display. I love all the parts of my job, but my favorite is when I’m leading a Spanish class in the gallery!<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
