{"id":626,"date":"2016-03-11T11:01:38","date_gmt":"2016-03-11T16:01:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/spanishandportuguese\/?p=626"},"modified":"2016-04-01T10:37:43","modified_gmt":"2016-04-01T14:37:43","slug":"spanish-writers-in-residence-manuel-vilas-and-ana-merino","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/spanishandportuguese\/2016\/03\/11\/spanish-writers-in-residence-manuel-vilas-and-ana-merino\/","title":{"rendered":"Spanish Writers-in-Residence: Manuel Vilas and Ana Merino"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Two award-winning Spanish writers will give public readings of their works as part of a residency at Dickinson.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ana Merino<\/strong>, author, poet and professor at the University of Iowa, will read on <strong>Tuesday, April 5, at 7 p.m.<\/strong> in the Stern Center Great Room.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Manuel Vilas<\/strong>, novelist and poet, will read on <strong>Tuesday, April 12, at 7 p.m.<\/strong> in room 235, Weiss Center for the Arts.<\/p>\n<p>Merino is an award-winning poet and writer whose works include nine books of poems, a youth novel and two plays. She has also written fiction and extensive criticism on comics and graphic novels in Spanish-speaking countries. Merino is director of the University of Iowa\u2019s MFA in Creative Writing in Spanish, the first program of its kind in the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>Vilas is a novelist and poet. His six collections of poetry have recently been compiled into a single volume. He has also published collections of essays and memoirs and has received critical acclaim and literary prizes.<\/p>\n<p>The writers\u2019 readings are part of their three-week residency at Dickinson, which includes class visits and a six-session workshop on creative writing in Spanish. They will also be giving a reading on April 6 at the Library of Congress in Washington.
