{"id":823,"date":"2017-10-06T13:11:01","date_gmt":"2017-10-06T17:11:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/spanishandportuguese\/?p=823"},"modified":"2017-11-14T10:59:42","modified_gmt":"2017-11-14T15:59:42","slug":"migrant-farm-labor-health-outreach","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.dickinson.edu\/spanishandportuguese\/2017\/10\/06\/migrant-farm-labor-health-outreach\/","title":{"rendered":"Migrant Farm Labor Health Outreach"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">In early August, a group of Spanish &amp; Portuguese department faculty, staff and volunteers gathered\u00a0to assemble 250 Wellness Bags for the 2017 Migrant Farm Labor Health Outreach initiative.\u00a0 Earlier\u00a0in 2017 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dickinson.edu\/site\/custom_scripts\/dc_faculty_profile_index.php?fac=arnedoa\"><u>Professor Asun Arnedo<\/u><\/a> obtained a grant from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.forbetterhealthpa.org\/\"><u>Partnership for Better Health<\/u><\/a> foundation to purchase\u00a0supplies for the bags, such as ointments, lotions, band aids, foot soaks, ibuprofen, and washcloths that the migrant workers\u00a0<u><\/u>would find useful after a long day\u2019s work in the fields.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">For almost 10 years, Professor Arnedo has been leading an annual service-learning project that is part of a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dickinson.edu\/homepage\/470\/spanish_and_portuguese_curriculum\"><u>Spanish for the Health Professions<\/u><\/a> course.\u00a0Students from the class provide volunteer work as interpreters for the Spanish-speaking farm workers and the English-speaking health providers\u00a0at the weekly clinics.
