His research interests include household energy use and emissions, the environmental implications of urban density, the challenges for climate change mitigation posed by global demographic change, and trends in economic education. He regularly teaches environmental economics, econometrics, and introduction to microeconomics. He also teaches courses in population and urban economics and is a contributing faculty member in the Data Analytics program.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Underwood earned his Ph.D. in Economics from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.colostate.edu\/\">Colorado State University<\/a> in 2013. His dissertation examined the role of demographic change, especially declining household size, in determination of household expenditures and the resulting carbon dioxide emissions. He has since published in several academic journals, including the <em>Journal of Risk and Uncertainty<\/em>, <em>Energy Policy<\/em>, <em>Ecological Economics, <\/em><em>Journal of Economic Education<\/em>, <em>Review of Political Economy<\/em>, and <em>Journal of Statistics and Data Science Education<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>He lives in Carlisle with his wife, Mallary, and their two sons.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tony Underwood is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Economics at Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA.\u00a0 He recently served as economics department chair from 2019 to 2023.
