I conducted shooting drills with my squadron and demonstrated an example of an attack with hand grenades. It turns out that Mankevich, a hussar who has returned from leave, and who is now a non-commissioned officer, had been a prisoner but escaped. He returned to the squadron during my stay in Petrograd.\u00a0He escaped from captivity in October 1914 from Kalisz, while he was at work. Together with one of the infantrymen, he walked for nearly 5 months before, completely by chance, happening upon his friend\u2019s regiment; however this friend had no such luck, as he was killed by his own regiment\u2019s wire.<\/p>\n<p>A new Cornet in our squadron, Yanishevsky, was also held prisoner and escaped.
