I went to Purishkevich\u2019s meal station. I arrived back from Dvinsk at 1 o\u2019clock at night and received news from Lieutenant Astafiev from the corps headquarters\u2014our men began to advance to the south and took 13 thousand prisoners and many spoils. There was a battle outside Il\u016bkste in the night. A hellish cannonade could be heard. What this means I do not yet know, although Illukst is 10 versts from us.
