I have been busy as a bee. On the 9th Headquarters Captain Popovitsky arrived to replace me: I am to join the students and commanders in a rifle squadron. On the 10th I received a telegram saying that Her Majesty\u2019s infantry has agreed to my transfer. An adjutant sent the telegram. What should I do?! I do not want to betray anyone. Headquarters Captain Riva was the first to lead by example\u2014he was offended and left the classes to be an aerial observer. And I am also offended. Surely I did not perform poorly in cavalry service? And surely if I am to fight on foot, I should be in a real infantry unit. I gave the general a report titled \u201cA Request for an Extension of my Service to Her Majesty in the Empress\u2019s Ranks.\u201d On the 10th there was a prayer service and classes began. I worked so much that I forgot my own birthday on the 4th of February.
