The Angara does not freeze here. We must be on the other side of Lake Baikal by tomorrow. Last night my oats were stolen\u2014they are a real treasure, as here there is only hay. We left at 10 o\u2019clock in the morning and arrived at 6 o\u2019clock in the evening; we went 45 versts along the shores of Lake Baikal. There were 2 cracks in the ice along the way. It was a difficult crossing\u2014many abandoned their horses. Thank God we are in Transbaikal.
