su-column-size-1-2\"><div class=\"su-column-inner su-u-clearfix su-u-trim\">\n<p>Today the 8th Cavalry Division headed towards\u00a0\u0141\u0119czyca, but they were unsuccessful. There was confusion: instead of guns in position, artillery was rolled out. Headquarters came under close-range gun fire. It was freezing and I caught a cold. We again spent the night at the <em>folwark<\/em>, where they fed us excellently.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Note: <\/strong>In the notebooks I kept during the war, I was afraid to mention names and titles. If my diary were to fall into the hands of the enemy, it would be\u00a0a\u00a0fertile source for exploration. My field journal was where I gathered all of the reports that referenced specific places, units, and the names of my superiors. I felt that if I lived, then I would put everything in order. When I left to go abroad, I took my diary with me, but I left my field notebooks at home in Vladivostok. I had accumulated a drawer-full, over 5 and a half years of war. In 1923, as the Bolsheviks approached, my sister burned them out of fear. And thus was lost that rich historical material, which can\u00a0never be recovered.
