So what? Shooting a Turk is just business as usual. Today we\u2019re taking a break. Nonsense. A break, when we should be pursuing the enemy. And tomorrow the pursuit will force us to cross the Warta river.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong> I often write in my diary\u00a0that \u201cwe are stumbling around aimlessly,\u201d resenting one problem or another. I hope with all my heart that a future historian, interested in reading my diary, will understand the worries of ordinary officers, and will be able to see everything in its true colors, without making additions or hiding mistakes.\u00a0The good things &#8212; let them\u00a0remain as such, and the bad sides too should be recorded. Anything else would be a lie that would paint a false picture for posterity. It&#8217;s true that sometimes &#8212; or even perhaps regularly &#8212; I made\u00a0mistakes, when I\u00a0found myself in unfamiliar surroundings. However, my personal impressions never changed. I noticed that during wartime, it was sometimes the case that those who were amazing officers in times of peace &#8212; lovely people &#8212; were completely useless in combat situations. Maybe you need to be born a soldier? The spirit for combat is not present in everyone, just as not everybody is cut out for military life. Reporting lies does serious harm to future success. The responsibilities of a soldier are well stated in the charter: \u201cEvery soldier should remember that he is a servant of the Sovereign and the Fatherland, and must protect them from enemies, from both internal and external forces.
