However, I am not frightened by the lack of letters, the cold, or hunger, etc. I know for a fact that the worse and more dangerous it is for me now, the more pleasant it will all be later to remember\u2014that is, of course, if I live. But hunger might cause me to collapse. We eat early in the morning, spend the entire day on horseback, and we aren\u2019t given a satisfying meal until the evening. I instructed the trumpeter, Rogal\u2019sky, to take some raw meat and season it with salt and pepper so that we can make kebabs on sticks during our stops. And to do it in five minutes.
