Our casualties: one fatality and one wounded. The night went by quietly, except that it became very cold towards morning and mosquitoes attacked us.<\/p>\n<p>The trenches we were occupying were rather primitive. It is not possible to dig the trenches deeper, due to the marshy soil. The turf is riddled by bullets and serves better to conceal us from observation than from enemy fire.<\/p>\n<p>We have no knowledge of what is going on in the outside world and are sustained by rumors.
