We were on duty until 4 pm, laying in the trenches. Then until 9 pm we were standing in the reserve column. The horses were not very pleased: standing on rocks after a night spent saddled up. I looked around the center of the town; it was badly looted. The massacre was begun by the soldiers, and then the locals completed it. The Jewish shop had been completely looted, the apartments too.\u00a0 In the shops there were only glass for lamps left. Two pharmacy shops were looted. I went to see the “Central” hotel. It has 4 rooms. The furnishings: a bed, a ragged sofa, a chair, and a table.<\/span><\/p>\n

At about 9 pm, when the regiment was waiting in anticipation of the arrival of the new division chief, our squadron was unexpectedly called to march ahead. We stood near the village all night, in the reserve column and with our horses saddled, and only entered the village in the morning. Everyone is very tired and morale is very low. The spirit of our troops is beginning to fade. We want so badly to believe in our victory and it’s so hard to see only retreat.
