Friday Evening \u2013 for me 5 PM is afternoon but that doesn\u2019t concern us today \u2013 the Italian House had its first \u201cCena Italiana\u201d (Italian Dinner) \u2013 it was A-MA-ZING<\/em>! A little context: The Italian House is actually the Romance Language House where 20 students plus 5 TAs (the Spanish, the Argentinian, the French, the Portuguese from Brazil, and of course the Italian) live; the students who live here with us study one (or more) of our languages and we all try our best to speak in our languages, have fun together and plan culture events with them \u2013 it is so funny when in the morning we meet in the bathroom and I see the efforts the make to speak Italian with me, they rather prefer not to come to bathroom at all! So, the Italian part of the house consists of 5 students (Natalie, Sara, Taylor, Stefano, and John) and I; and as I was saying Friday \u201cEvening\u201d we had dinner together, also with Prof. Trazzi and Prof. Masini.<\/p>\n

We gather in the kitchen and Prof. Trazzi started explaining what we had to do and prepare, he is the Kitchen Boss<\/em>. But first, I had to put some Italian music \u2013 I\u2019m not such an expert or enthusiastic of Italian songs but when you are abroad you easily become one \u2013 in the background, you always have music or a TV on in the kitchen \u2013 it creates the atmosphere!<\/p>\n

Now we all had our roles and things to do, well some of us had to<\/p>\n

experience the role of those who just wait while the others work, yeah there\u2019s always someone who just \u201cgioca a carte\u201d (play cards), play with some board games, or entertain the others with magic tricks \u2013 it\u2019s the hardest role but somebody has to do it!<\/p>\n

After almost an hour and half the food was finally ready \u2013 we have been really quick, it takes more time usually! \u201cTutti a tavola\u201d (which is the typical expression mothers or those who cook say to gather everybody at the table to start eating \u2026 it\u2019s \u201clet\u2019s sit and eat\u201d time now)!!!<\/p>\n

Tartufooooo!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

When we were ready to eat, Taylor said that she never tasted \u201cil tartufo\u201d (truffle) so we had to record her first time and of course she loved it! So, after this \u201cmoving\u201d scene, we start eating two types of Risotto, \u201cRisotto allo Zafferano\u201d and \u201cRisotto ai Funghi e Tartufo\u201d \u2013 delicious!!! Oh, I was forgetting that while we were preparing, we have to \u201cspizzicare qua e la\u201d (to nibble here and there), that\u2019s why Italians created \u201cgli Antipasti\u201d: we had \u201colive speziate (Prof.Trazzi\u2019s personal recipe) con un filo di olio extravergine d\u2019oliva\u201d and \u201cgrissini\u201d which \u201cnon possono mai mancare\u201d (they are always there, every lunch or dinner together with bread \u2026 we didn\u2019t have bread though, but we will one day)!<\/p>\n

Chocolate Budino!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

It wasn\u2019t a typical huge Italian dinner with many courses but still it was enough! Oh well, there was one thing that we all were waiting for \u2026 \u201cil Budino\u201d! The night before, Thursday, Natalie and I prepared a dessert similar to the US pudding (or course budino is way better), dark Italian chocolate Budino! Then we put it in the fridge and the following day we ate it with so much pleasure (even if some of us were full, there is always room for the cake)!<\/p>\n

We had so much fun! It was beautiful, as if we just went back to Italy for one night. The music, the food, the language we were speaking: the whole atmosphere was so perfec\"thumb_IMG_7078_1024\"t!<\/p>\n

Of course, we had \u201ccaff\u00e8\u201d (espresso). Italians need it!<\/p>\n

The next day, we had to \u201cfare il bis\u201d (do it again), as if we couldn\u2019t just go back to the American food after the dinner of the previous night, we had to do it gradually. So, Natalie, Taylor, and I just cooked some \u201cpasta con sugo al<\/p>\n

pomodoro e zucchine\u201d (tomato sauce with zucchini), prepared a \u201cmacedonia\u201d (fruit salad) and we had to finish the budino!!!<\/p>\n

This is it! Nothing really big but still something so special.<\/p>\n
