Eating out doesn&#8217;t always mean eating in a restaurant. It could mean&nbsp;purchasing some goods from a farmer&#8217;s market or&nbsp;store, or bringing them along with you, and serving them outside,&nbsp;in creative ways.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>And so &#8211; to be ready for this &#8211;&nbsp;we carry supplies with us. I have a red basket (similar to <a  href=\"http:\/\/www.thepicnicworld.com\/picnic-bags-81659.html\">this one<\/a>)&nbsp;that was found a thrift store. For breakfast, both Tim and I make&nbsp;soaked oats in them.&nbsp;I pack my lunch in them, and toss a regular kitchen spoon in my backpack too (but a set of <a  href=\"http:\/\/store-jfohpy.mybigcommerce.com\/repeat-utensil-set-merlot\/\">these<\/a> would be nice).&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Mason Jars<\/h3>\n<p>Yes, ok. <a  href=\"http:\/\/thehealist.com\/projects\/trends-hipsters-revive-mason-jar\/\">It&#8217;s pretty hipster of us<\/a>, but mason jars are just so dang useful. They can be storage containers. They can be water jugs. The can be vases. Neither of ours are very sharp, but they&#8217;re handy. Tim has one of <a  href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Light-Fire-FireKnife-Stainless-FireSteel\/dp\/B007BO9G1W\">these<\/a>.&nbsp;Mine didn&#8217;t cost a dime. I snatched it from the lost and found at the cafe where we work. It can fit in a pocket, basically. Above is <a  href=\"http:\/\/www.cascadedesigns.com\/msr\/stoves\/rapid-cooking\/pocketrocket\/product\">the model<\/a> Tim has, and <a  href=\"http:\/\/www.gastropermaculture.com\/blog\/2013\/9\/28\/our-manifesto\">it&#8217;s served us well<\/a>. However,&nbsp;I&#8217;d really like to get my hands on one of <a  href=\"http:\/\/www.biolitestove.com\/campstove\/camp-overview\/features\/\">these<\/a> someday.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s good to have a small, light weight skillet to use atop the rocket stove, or a tea kettle, or metal containers like the ones above.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>A sampling of simple meals prepared with these supplies:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Slices of tomato and avocado, hummus, goat cheese&nbsp;and crusty bread.<\/li>\n<li>Walnut butter sandwiches, warmed ginger carrot soup, tomato salad with dried parsley<\/li>\n<li>Grilled cheese with goat manchego and tomato<\/li>\n<li>Oatmeal and hot tea (over a fire or a rocket stove)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"thumb-image\" alt=\"Screen Shot 2013-11-16 at 2.58.00 PM.png\" data-image=\"http:\/\/static.squarespace.com\/static\/5240d58ee4b09650462cff7c\/t\/5287cee4e4b0fd595cc2b829\/1384632042521\/Screen%20Shot%202013-11-16%20at%202.58.00%20PM.png\" data-image-dimensions=\"877x496\" data-image-focal-point=\"0.48026315789473684,0.18292682926829268\" data-load=\"false\" data-image-id=\"5287cee4e4b0fd595cc2b829\" data-type=\"image\" src=\"http:\/\/static.squarespace.com\/static\/5240d58ee4b09650462cff7c\/t\/5287cee4e4b0fd595cc2b829\/1384632042521\/Screen%20Shot%202013-11-16%20at%202.58.00%20PM.png?format=500w\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We like to be ready to prepare&nbsp;a meal at any given time.Maybe we won&#8217;t &#8220;cook&#8221; per se, but we like to be apply to slice a loaf of bread, saute some vegetables and serve up some hummus or tapenade.
