After receiving her Ph.D. in comparative literature from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, California-native Elise Bartosik-Vélez now lives with her family and teaches at Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. In addition to her work on Christopher Columbus, she studies British and Spanish America during the colonial and early national periods.
