2025 Student Open House!

Hiring for the next school year is in full swing… so what better way to engage with interested students than to hold an Open House Event! This was my first time being able to help with this student-run event and I am so happy I made the decision to be involved. Most of the spring 2025 Watershed Coordinators were able to attend so we were able to talk about all the work that we do, from the lab to data analysis and to outreach.

The main goal of the Open House was to provide a space for interested students to get an overview of the work ALLARM does, the work we student Watershed Coordinators do, and to answer any other questions. We mainly prepared for the event during our staff meeting by considering the questions that we had when in the interview process ourselves. Naisha (‘27) who was involved said, “I loved getting to help with the ALLARM Open House – I especially enjoyed seeing people from the ENST 162 class that ALLARM visited and presented to the day before. Through explaining lab work at ALLARM, I realized how much I have learned and grown in the year since I was the one attending the Open House.” Similarly, Kristin (‘27) shared that, “I really enjoyed being able to talk about my experience at ALLARM working in the lab and to see so many excited in my favorite aspects of lab work.”

A lot of us shared these positive sentiments and were happy to see that the Open House had a great turn out with inquisitive and insightful questions asked. Katelyn (‘27) and I helped greet people at the welcome table and answered questions in the secondary office where we had out preserved macros and ‘warm and fuzzy’ envelopes for students to check out. Students seem interested in multiple areas of the work we do and seemed like a very promising group. My favorite part of the event was that I got such a great variety of questions beyond just time commitment of the job and other basics. This opportunity on campus is so unique and we think a lot of the people that came to the Open House were able to capture that by the way we talked about this organization. We are so excited for new ALLARMies and wish everyone in hiring process the best of luck!
