Assistant Professor Mireille Rebeiz shared her research from a recent article she authored on “The Story of Zahra: A Shattered Body and Voice from Lebanon” by renowned contemporary Lebanese author Hanan al-Shaykh (2/26/2019). Attending were students and faculty from Middle East Studies (MEST), the Arabic Program, the French Department, and other interdisciplinary programs who also enjoyed a nice pizza lunch, courtesy of the Middle East Studies program. Following the presentation, a broad ranging discussion of the novel, its protagonist, plot, and character development, as well as the use of symbolism and realism in the novel.
