Carlisle Parks Project Outline
Welcome to the Carlisle Parks history exhibit! Built by the students in History 211—American Landscapes, this site explores the history of eight parks in the Borough of Carlisle: Biddle Mission Park, Butcher Tot Lot, Heberlig-Palmer Park, LeTort Park, Lindner Park, Memorial Park, Shaffer Park, and Thornwald Park. For each park, we have attempted to capture: the history of its founding; the evolution of its plans; the controversies, challenges, and debates that have ensued regarding its shape and uses; the historical context for its development; and the plans and hopes for the future.
