MLK Commemoration March

When

  • Monday, January 20th
    • 4:00 pm those who wish can depart Dickinson from the Stern patio
    • 4:15 pm gather at Shiloh and prepare to march
    • 4:30 pm march to Allison, led by Rev. Sylvester Brown

Where

  • From Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church (154 Lincoln Street) to Allison Hall (99 Moreland Avenue)
  • Allison Hall was formerly Allison United Methodist Church, and Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered a speech here in 1961. It was a preview of his famous “I Have a Dream” speech, and emphasized themes of integration and justice.

Description

Rev. Sylvester Brown will lead Dickinsonians and members of the Carlisle community in a march filled with song that will:

  • start at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church,
  • go north on West Street,
  • cross at and over Louther Street,
  • traverse Dickinson’s campus, cross College Street,
  • turn the corner at High Street,
  • cross High Street at Britton Plaza, and
  • traverse Morgan Field, ending at Allison.
