Description
Every now and then the world outside encroaches on our classrooms and demands our attention. It is daunting to feel the responsibility of caring for our students’ well-being in response to isolated world events, especially when those events don’t fit easily into the framework of our classes, but it is equally difficult to forge ahead with lesson plans when we or our students are distracted, anxious, or angry.
Assistant Director of the Writing Program Lucy McInerney will provide participating faculty with useful strategies for helping students channel heightened emotions into the productive outlet of in-class journal writing. This can be used as a one-time activity or built into your daily classroom routine, and provides an opportunity for faculty to encourage students to self-regulate their emotions.
