Ciao tutti! I’m Ingrid and I am a currently finishing my sophomore year of college. I am a double major in Italian Studies and French. I decided to participate in this Mosaic program because I knew it would give me a more complex understanding of the political situation on the ongoing issue of migration and refugees in an area of the world I am very interested in. I have always been passionate about helping people, so this has been a great way for me to explore the need for humanitarian work across the globe in a more academic way. I am hoping to continue my research on finding and giving voices to immigrants, especially through the power of language, when I study abroad next year in Bologna in Fall 2016 and Toulouse in Spring 2017!
My name is Hyla Jacobson and I am a sophomore sociology major from Silver Spring, MD. I decided to participate in this Mosaic because I have always been very passionate about human rights and was very interested in learning about this through the lens of Mediterranean migration. I learned so much about the topics of migration through speaking with the many wonderful people we met during our fieldwork in Italy. The Mosaic was a wonderful experience and taught me incredible things about the world, and about myself. I hope to continue to study migration this fall when I study abroad in Copenhagen!
