Rising sea levels caused by the melting of icecaps and thermal expansion represents one of the most grave issues we face today. Coastal regions are at risk with nations like Tuvalu experiencing annual land loss due to the ocean level rising. One child on the island describes “I feel like a homeless kid hunting for a place to shelter”(Channel 4 News). Although not as extreme, the United States is facing the same issue since 40% of its population lies in coastal areas. It is critical that we analyze the harms we face like the billions of dollars in infrastructure we would need to combat flooding to ensure we reach the future in the most effective way possible.
