Preface

survey \ ser-vay \ n [1] a general view or appraisal of something [2]  a comprehensive record of the landscape and its features

The Dickinson Survey of American History aims to provide a 21st-century platform for exploring the social and political landscape of the national past. Please understand, however, this is a digital platform, not a linear textbook. It is an evolving, multi-dimensional, student and faculty driven project that hopes to inspire and inform deeper classroom engagement with some of the main struggles that have defined America.  Getting started is simple.  You can find surveying tools listed across the top menu, or explore specific pathways from the right-hand column.
