A research project, whatever its scale, is an enterprise.  A project undertaken by a paying client, or funded by a specific grant, may require some of the attributes of a business, or a vast public works project, with lines of authority and designated work roles for multiple people, plus specific schedules, budgets, and financial reports.  A student term paper may lack those obvious project management features, but it too requires a deliverable by a specific deadline.  Either way, research requires some project management, and it can help to make that explicit. –Zachary Princeton Guide, p. 227
