Dickinson College students study the Founders with great care, because the college itself was part of the American Revolutionary era, established as a school in 1773 and first chartered as a college in 1783. The guiding spirit of the institution was Benjamin Rush, a signer of the Declaration. And, of course, John Dickinson, the college’s namesake, was a (somewhat reluctant) signer of the Declaration and an important framer of the US Constitution. Students in History 117 (US To 1877) have been busy crafting profiles on a wide range of broadly defined “Founders.” Here is a growing list of some of the best of the short profiles which they have created :
- Abigail Adams (By Carolyn Goode)
- Elizabeth Powel (By Jake Phillips)
- George Read (By Jenna Hess)
- Roger Sherman (By Jordan Forry)
