Produced in 2011 by Dickinson College student Colin MacFarlane (Class of 2012), this 11 minute documentary short film offers a model for student-centered research. The fascinating story explores Colin’s attempt to learn more about black soldiers from Carlisle, Pennsylvania who fought in the American Civil War. The research journal documenting Colin’s series of discoveries is also freely available and thus offers teachers and students an inside look at the complex nature of modern-day historical methods.
