Another semester has arrived, one that brings new, fresh, and exciting ideas for the Idea Fund. One of these is the new Monday Monthly Meet-Up (MMM) structure that has replaced the existing General Meeting structure in many different ways: instead of having weekly meetings every Wednesday night, the meetings will be held on a Monday night once a month to provide project updates, useful workshops, breakout sessions, and “passion presentations.”
The new meeting structure was launched on January 26th, and was an overwhelming success; the room was buzzing with excitement, energy, and passion, and it set the tone for the rest of the semester. Emcee Nick Bailey kept the energy high all evening, concluding with a presentation on the sharing economy around the world. Rogelio Cerezo offered a primer on engaging with the Carlisle community; these different presentations spurred valuable discussion and brainstorming around the future of the Dickinson-Carlisle relationship and on the sharing economy and consumer culture.
Project presentations from Kevin Henwood ’18 and Angel Shiwakoti ’17 of Clubb, an app that provides mobile services geared towards college organizations to help them operate more efficiently, and from Manny O’Campo ’18 and Kijana Embry ’18 of Tio Manny’s, a student-operated barbershop and sound system equipment rental shop, were extremely successful at raising interest and connections that will be beneficial for the two projects moving forward.
Don’t miss out on the rest of the MMMs this semester on Monday, February 23rd, March 23rd, April 13th, and April 27th (all in Stafford Auditorium from 7:30-9PM). Chipotle will be provided. See you there!
